We are constantly being bombarded by messages from the media about what we should look like, how to have the perfect body, what foods we should and shouldn’t eat. Food manufacturers and supermarkets keep pumping out adverts trying to tempt us with treats, “because we deserve it”, while the press is full of diet advice and skinny models, and government warnings about rising levels of obesity. It’s no wonder so many of us are confused about our own body image. 

Many of the clients I help with weight management in Mayfair and Tunbridge Wells have a very complex relationship with food which has been formed since childhood. We learn a lot from our parents’ attitudes and how they used to make us feel at the table, making us finish our plates, or using sweet treats as a reward. Some people punish themselves by denying themselves food, and others comfort eat to try and make themselves feel better about other aspects of their life. Stress, and disturbed sleep patterns often have a big part to play in bad diet.
